Sugar’s Mocha Mist

Have you ever watched or competed in the Extreme Mountain Trail challenge which is held yearly in Eugene, Oregon? It is really something and that is Sugar’s specialty. Sugar is an un-papered 2001 mare who we think is probably a Paint or Paint cross. She grew up on the range in rugged eastern Oregon, and was brought in to start her training as a 3-year-old. In 2007 she foaled a handsome colt who was a dun with markings very similar to her own. Over the years she has had quite a bit (many months) of professional training – mostly using Natural Horsemanship methods and more recently with a performance trainer. Her current owner was hoping that Sugar would be quiet and dependable under saddle for her twin 9-year-old daughters, but we have determined she needs a more mature, knowledgeable rider. She is very kind and sweet; has a willing mind; is not bothered by children or dogs running around her, nor afraid of ATV’s or tractors. Sugar gets along well with other horses in a pasture (she is low in the pecking order) and is easy to catch when turned out. She does fine in a stall, but is happiest with a good-sized run attached or daily turn-out. Having received lots of handling, she has excellent ground manners and is good to halter, lead, tie, bathe, trim/handle her feet, loads and hauls nicely and as can be seen, has no problem in entering and crossing water. We are hoping to find a great new OHSET or trail-riding home for this pretty mare so a more child-ready mount can be purchased for the 9-year-olds. As far as we know, Sugar is sound, is current on her shots, worming, trims, dental and chiropractic work and lives in Springfield, Oregon.
