"Holly" is a big,
muscular, well-boned and nicely-bred 14-year-old AQHA mare with some
wonderful OLD Quarter Horse bloodlines from back when the horses were
built to work hard all day long and stay SOUND into old age. Holly is
quiet, kind and honest and has a no-nonsense attitude about life. She
isn't spooky on the trails or being ridden down the side of the road to
the local neighborhood grocery, and goes pretty much anywhere you point
her. Holly is very well-broke, but hasn't had lots of 'fancy'
arena training for the show arena or anything; she is a good, hard
worker and can stand for weeks or months, then be caught up - saddled
and head down the trail or road without a lot of silliness. She has been
introduced to barrels; has been used on the ranch for gathering and
roping cattle in the branding pens; and has been 'out of the box' a bit,
but is not being sold as a 'roping horse' - rather as an all-around
using or pleasure horse. She neck reins nicely, is usually ridden on the
bit, but can also ride on a loose rein if you check her back a bit and
let her know what you expect. She has lots of get-up-and-go (Holly does
NOT need spurs) and LOADS of power and strength, so can carry a
good-sized person easily to get a job done. Holly probably would do best
with an intermediate or fairly confident rider - she doesn't have any
vices, but if you ask her to move out - she DOES. Her ground
manners are excellent - she LOVES a bath, is good to catch, lead, tie,
bridle and saddle, and stands nicely to mount. She gets along well with
other horses, easy to shoe and loads and hauls super. Holly hasn't had
any experience as
a drill team horse, but with her nice confident attitude, her owner
thinks she might make an excellent drill horse and a super break-away roper. Holly is sound, healthy, current on
her shots, worming, dentistry and shoes and lives in Powell Butte, in the central
Oregon area. I have lots more pictures of Holly too, so just ask...
